A former office building at 48 Fifth Street is being developed thanks to $500-thousand dollars in funding from the municipality.

Shelley Wilkins, Director of Housing Services, says there’s a lot of work ahead.

“Right now it’s a vacant commercial property and it will be converted to 20 units of affordable housing units, one bedroom units,” Wilkins explains. “Each floor will have an accessible unit on it, and the first floor will be retained for a tenant meeting room, laundry facility, an office for the property manager, and commercial office space.”

Wilkins says the next step is to apply for $900,000 in funding from the Ministry of Housing.
