Municipal officials are trying to get a better idea of how many local residents are affected by homelessness.

According to Valerie Colasanti, Director Employment & Social Services and Co-Chair of the CK Housing and Homelessness Committee, a survey will be conducted over the course of a week in April to try to gather numbers on those without stable housing in Chatham-Kent.

“Our count will provide a “snapshot” of homelessness in Chatham-Kent and become a measurement of the number of people experiencing homelessness over a specific period of time,” Colasanti says. “The count will improve our understanding of the needs and circumstances of people who are affected by homelessness in our community.”

It’s all part of a national movement to end homelessness – the “20,000 Homes” campaign aims to get 20,000 Canadians into permanent housing by July first, 2020.
