Municipal officials are getting their ducks in a row as they put together a new “Vehicle for Hire” bylaw.

Replacing the former taxi by-law, the proposed changes would make way for private companies like Uber to operate in Chatham-Kent, and hopefully increase accessibility for all citizens.

Manager of Licensing Services, Nancy Havens, says there still a fair bit of work to be done.

“The committee will meet again, and we will review all the information that has been gathered, and we will make a decision on what way we are going to go forward with the [new] by-law. We will compile all that data, do a report to council with the draft by-law, and make recommendations to council,” says Havens.

Havens says the feedback has been mixed.

“We have received feedback from Chatham-Kent Uber and the taxi industry, and there have been favourable comments and unfavourable comments, and we’re taking it all into consideration when reviewing the bylaw that we’re going to bring before council,” Havens says.

Anyone who still wants to have their say on the propose changes can contact the municipality before April 27th.
