opp-268x300A group of local kids will be spending the next week learning what it’s like to be a police officer.

The 8th annual Chatham-Kent Cop Camp kicks off today.

OPP Constable Jay Denorer says the goal is to help build kids into the community leaders of tomorrow.

“We’re hoping to motivate the young people to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement. We just want to have them work with police and see what it’s like to be a police officer and the roles we fill with in the community,” says Denorer. “From that we want them to take that back and  appreciate and respect law enforcement and their role in society.”

Campers, who are sworn in as honourary constables for the week, will be learning all about the traffic safety, crime scene management, community patrols, and the Chatham-Kent Police canine unit.
