Organizers are overwhelmed with the response to this year’s United Way Tampon Tuesday drive to collect feminine products for those in need.

Last year, 750 products were donated, and while the total number of products donated t his year won’t be tallied until later this morning, organizer Brian Armitage says he expects they’ve raised about twice as much.

“It’s one of those things you don’t think about when you donate to the food bank, and it’s one of the things that it’s really needed,” Armitage says. “But it’s also one of the things that a lot of women are willing to put off to put food on the table.”

Once everything has been collected and organized, the products will be delivered to 13 organizations that support women across Chatham-Kent.

Statistics show that feminine hygiene products are one of the top three material costs for women under the age of 65.
