A number of Chatham-Kent residents felt the earth move last night as an earthquake shook the region.

Centred in Amherstburg, the quake hit just after 8 o’clock Thursday night.

While the US Geological Survey measured the quake as a 3.6 magnitude, Natural Resources Canada has it listed as a 4.1.

According to the Natural Resources Canada website, “the magnitude defined by Charles Richter is the source of all magnitude scales. Over the years however, it was realized that the magnitude that Richter had defined for California (ML means local magnitude), did not apply to Eastern North America where the seismic waves attenuate differently.”

There have been no reports of any injuries or damage.
