After months of campaigning, it is Election Day in Chatham-Kent. All the debates and profiles are over and it’s almost time to count the ballots.

In 2014, about 42% of eligible voters bothered to cast a ballot but it appears that number will be up this time around with so many competitive races.

Already nearly 10,000 people voted online with another 2300 taking advantage of the advanced polls. Both numbers up significantly from last time around.

Five candidates are trying to unseat incumbent Mayor Randy Hope, who has held the post since 2006.

Eight people are chasing two council seats in Ward 4, four are up for the two seats in Ward 5 Wallaceburg.

In all, there are 45 candidates looking to fill 17 seats in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre.
