With hundreds of thousands of acres of corn grown across the province specifically for ethanol, the fuel continues to be an important market segment for Ontario farmers.

That’s the belief of Mark Brock, Chair of the Grain Farmers of Ontario.

“(If not for ethanol) You would see producers plant other things and then the price would drop,” says Brock. “Anytime you take away a significant market it’s going to affect the chance of an over supply…it would have a pretty big impact.”

Brock adds that ethanol production is one of the largest uses of corn in Ontario which is used by plants like Greenfield Ethanol in Chatham.
