What’s described as an “internal operating issue” at the Imperial Gas refinery sparked flaring around 6:20 last night.

No one was hurt.

Crews also helped to extinguish a grass fire just south of the company’s property.

While officials say they can’t comment on the cause, Imperial will be co-operating with investigators to find out exactly how the blaze got started.

In a statement on its website, Imperial has been monitoring air quality as a precaution but says so far there have been no issues.

The City of Sarnia and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change have also been notified.

You can read the full statement on Imperial’s website.
