PC leader Doug Ford brought his campaign to Chatham for the second time in just over a month.

Doug Ford speaks at a rally in Chatham, May 23, 2018.

Speaking to a crowd of about 250 people at the Bradley Centre last night, significantly smaller than the 600 who turned out to see the party leader back in April.

Ford focused on hydro rates, health care, and supporting small business.

“We’re going to cut the red tape, we’re going to lower hydro rates, we’re going to lower taxes, and we’re going to have this province booming once again,” Ford says. “Every single large company in Ontario was started with one or two employees.”

Ford also took aim at the NDP, which has been surging in the polls lately, and says an NDP government would be “10 times worse” than the Liberals.

Brad Maynard was one of those in attendance at last night’s rally, and says Ford’s message speaks to him.

“So far he’s hitting all the right buttons, people are tired of hydro rates, the backroom dealing that’s been going on,” Maynard says. “Doug deserves a chance.”

Earlier in the week, Ford made a campaign promise to eliminate property taxes for Royal Canadian Legions across the province.

That prompted a comment from Chatham-Kent’s Mayor – Randy Hope says Legions in Chatham-Kent are already exempt from property taxes.

Hope says some members may not have been aware, and he wanted to ensure the Legion doesn’t become a political issue locally.
