News that hundreds of renewable energy projects across Ontario – including the Otter Creek Wind Farm near Wallaceburg – are being scrapped is getting mixed reviews.

The announcement that 758 contracts were being cancelled was music to the ears of local wind opponents and members of the Wallaceburg Area Wind Concerns group.

However, the NDP’s energy critic says the move could cost thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Ford government says it will pass a law to prevent the penalties and costs associated with ending the contracts from being passed on to hydro customers, but critics say that won’t stop those costs from being placed on the shoulders of taxpayers in Ontario.
