With the Christmas season fast approaching, the Salvation Army is looking to help those in need.

The annual Red Kettle campaign officially kicks off today across Chatham-Kent.

Captain Stephen Holland says they’re hoping to raise $460,000.

“And that helps goes toward Christmas and helps us buy some toys, if we have to but we also request people buy toys for the children unwrapped new toys and donate them,” says Holland. “We put that into a hamper bag and they get those toys for Christmas. “Put that Food is always a big thing, I think last year they did close to 1,200 Christmas hampers.”

Kettles will be out across Chatham-Kent now through December 23rd.
