Local residents flocked to Chatham-Kent’s newest brewery over the weekend as the Sons of Kent held its official grand opening. sons-of-kent-opening

Colin Chrysler, one of the partners behind the brand, says it’s a labour of love.

“We’re here for the community first and foremost,” Chrysler explains. “We obviously love what we do. All of the support we’ve gotten has been from people who genuinely care about Chatham, people who want to invest in Chatham, people who believe in this city and want to see this become something bigger than what it is.”

A number of dignitaries took part in a ribbon cutting at the brewery, located at the corner of Adelaide and King in the former Cinema Six on Saturday, with crowds lining up to sample the product.

The brewery currently offers eight varieties with hopes to add more selection down the road.

“We’ve got something for everybody,” Chrysler says. “It’s not big, crazy beers across the board. We have more sessionable beers, approachable styles, lighter style beers, right up to big, in your face, hop-forward beers, as well as dark coconut porters.”

The beer is now available at a number of local restaurants and establishments, as well as the brewery itself.
