fidget_spinnerThe debate continues over whether fidget spinners are a helpful educational tool, or simply a toy.

Gary Girardi, superintendent with the Lambton Kent District School Board says they are keeping an eye on students who use the devices.

“When we look at different kinds of tools we need to take direction from our special education department and  so this would be an opportunity to take a look at the specific tool and does it match the needs of the kids in the classroom,” says Girardi. “To my knowledge we haven’t had any significant concerns, and if there have been concerns they would have been managed at individual schools.”

Officials with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board say they haven’t had any issues.

Some schools in other areas have banned the spinners from their classrooms, saying they are too much of a distraction.
