The local public school board is looking to hire some new supply teachers.

Phil Warner with the Lambton Kent District School Board says there’s a shortage of teachers due to increased competition for qualified employees and an expansion of the teacher education program to two years.

“We have a supply list we call the roster each year as the year progresses it depletes a bit as people get hired into permanent or long term jobs,” says Warner. “So we’re getting down pretty low, lower than we have been at this time of year than most years, so we’re looking at a pretty significant hire for both elementary teachers and secondary teachers.”

The school board has around 22,000 students and 1350 staff members.
