A new group has been formed, speaking out against more wind turbines being built in Chatham-Kent.

Wallaceburg Area Wind Concerns spokesman Dan Donkers says they got together over the summer during the Ministry of Environment’s approval process for the Otter Creek Wind Project.

“A group of us got together, trying to present a united front,” Donkers says.
We’ve kept in touch, sharing what we’ve learned and what our concerns are, paying close attention to what’s happening with North Kent 1.”

The group isn’t connected to Water Wells First, which has been focusing its attention on contaminated water wells around Dover and the current North Kent Wind 1 project.

Wallaceburg Area Wind Concerns wants to prevent any further development of the Otter Creek project specifically, and is reaching out to any other local residents who are concerned with more turbines being built, whether due to noise, water well, or other health issues.

“Something is happening,” Donkers says. “Is it coincident that it just so happens that it’s (near) the turbines? Great, if that’s the case so be it, but let’s find out what is going on.”

The group will be holding its first information meeting next Thursday at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg, starting at 7 o’clock.
