Listen weekday afternoons at 3:40 as Jay and Chris profile Michael Yurich on the Local Spotlight
Versatility is key for Michael Yurich. Songwriter. Guitarist. Piano man. Singer. The full package.
Michael was born in Sault Ste. Marie and started music lessons on the piano at the young age of 10
When he was 14 his grandmother bought him a guitar and he spent the next couple of years learning the guitar riffs of George Harrison, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.
Jimi Hendrix became a large influence and eventually he also learned how to play slide by listening to Duane Allman, Joe Walsh and David Lindley.
Yurich was also a sideman for years and backed up many musicians around Ontario and Michigan.
Michael has now released an all original CD entitled `Catching Up` and while trying to stay away from formula, Yurich tries to write in a different genre for every song that he composes.
Currently, he is writing music for a second CD release and resides in Sarnia while playing with a band called “Smokehouse”.
