$1.6 Million Restoration Suggested for Wallaceburg’s Walking Bridge

$1.6 million in repairs could be coming to the walking bridge in downtown Wallaceburg.

The span was closed this past November after rust was found on some structural components.

As we told you earlier this week, a report is expected to come to council March 28th on the future of the LO Stonehouse Pedestrian Bridge.

Officials with the Chatham-Kent Engineering department say the report will seek approval for a major rehabilitation with design activities proposed to start this year and construction ending in 2023.

The bridge is expected to remain closed until the work can be completed.

The last major restoration of the span took place in 2015 at a cost of just over $540,000. The community rallied around the project to save it from being closed in 2013.
