A local food bank has been given a boost, thanks to the generosity of hockey fans.
At their home opener this past Sunday, the Chatham Maroons GOHL hockey club collected donations of non-perishable food to support those in need in the community.
The “Pack the Rink! Pack the Food Bank!” event at Memorial Arena brought in 1025 pounds of food and $730 in cash, which is now being passed on to Outreach for Hunger in Chatham.
Team Vice President Karen Szekesy says the food drive show what can happen when team and community come together to support those in need.
Brenda LeClair, Executive Director of the food bank, says the need is at a critical point right now, and the team’s support helps a great deal.
