This weekend marks a celebration of Chatham’s baseball history.
Launched in 2021, the annual Field of Honour baseball game pays tribute to the 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars and early baseball in Canada.
Saturday’s event at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham feature descendants of early Black baseball players in a series of charity games.
The day includes three baseball games: a non-competitive game at 11, followed by a youth matchup at 12:30 and the “rising stars” at 2pm.
With showers in the forecast, organizers say the games will continue in the event of light rain, however heavy rain, thunder, or lightning will force play to be cancelled.
Admission is by donation with proceeds going to support the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum.
