Canada Border Services Agency officers were busy through the month of August, seizing more than $13.8 million in tobacco and nicotine products at border crossings in southern Ontario.
Officials say border agents uncovered significant quantities of contraband hidden inside regular cargo during routine inspections, preventing millions of dollars’ worth of illegal goods from hitting local streets.
Some of the more notable seizures took place at the Blue Water Bridge, including $2.7 million in loose-leaf tobacco seized on August 20, $2.8 million in loose-leaf tobacco uncovered on August 14, and another $2.9 million in nicotine pouches on August 11.
Since January 1, 2026, CBSA officers in the Southern Ontario Region have seized more than $52.2 million in tobacco and nicotine products.
A statement from the CBSA says authorities continue to combat the illegal cross-border movement of contraband tobacco at the border through intelligence, specialized detection equipment, and the expertise of frontline officers.
