135 Years and Going Strong

The Salvation Army is looking forward as it celebrates 135 years in Canada.

Chatham-Kent was one of the first places the Sally Ann set up shop.

Captain Karen Holland says looking to the future, the organization will continue to adapt.

“Church attendance all over the place for most denominations would be down these days,” Holland says. “But when people come through our doors and need assistance, many of them have no church home or even belief system.”

While the Salvation Army is a faith-based organization, Holland says your beliefs don’t matter, the organization is simply there to help.

A flag raising ceremony was held at the Civic Centre earlier this week to mark the Sally Ann’s anniversary.
