1st Dose Walk In Clinic, 2nd Doses Sped Up

A special walk-in clinic is being held today for those still looking to get their first shot of COVID vaccine.

Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer, Dr. David Colby says the clinic is open to anyone 12 and older.

“We’re especially reaching out to the 12 to 17-year-olds because they need their first dose now in order to be able to have their second dose before they go to school in September,” Dr. Colby says, although also stressing anyone who needs to get their first dose is welcome.

The walk-in clinic at the Bradley Centre runs from 3:30 until 7:30 tonight.

“I think the idea is to have more of these (walk-in clinics,) but we’ll see how this one goes first,” Dr. Colby says. “We’ve vaccinated a lot of people in Chatham-Kent, but by offering free transit and no need to book, just show up and we’ll get you done, we’re seeing if we can reach people we haven’t been able to get so far.”

Free shuttles are running throughout the afternoon from both the Wallaceburg Walmart and the WISH Centre in Chatham.

Meantime, second doses of COVID vaccine are being ramped up once again.

The province says everyone 18 and over who had a first dose of an mRNA vaccine can book an appointment to receive their second shot ahead of schedule as the wait is trimmed down to just 28 days between doses of either Pfizer or Moderna.

Anyone who received AstraZeneca as their first shot needs to wait at least eight weeks before their second dose.
