Chatham-Kent councillors will begin chipping away at the proposed municipal budget this week in an effort to reduce the burden on local taxpayers.
Budget deliberations for the 2026 update to the municipality’s 2024-2027 multi-year budget will begin on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Deliberations will continue on Wednesday and Thursday if required.
The draft budget was presented to council earlier this month, with a property tax increase of 4.92 per cent. The proposed increase equates to an additional $104 annually for the average household with a home valued at $100,000.
All budget meetings will be held in-person in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre and will also be livestreamed on YourTV CK’s YouTube Channel.
Anyone wishing to make a deputation to council regarding the budget can still do so during the first night of deliberations. Requests and submissions must be sent by email to ckfps@chatham-kent.ca before noon on Tuesday.
