A Woodstock man is facing charges after allegedly trying to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of drugs across the Canada-US border.

A commercial vehicle was pulled over for secondary examination at the Blue Water Bridge on February 4. With the help of a detector dog, Canada Border Services Agency officers uncovered 16 duffle bags full of suspected methamphetamine, weighing a total of 266 kilograms.

The 29-year-old accused was arrested and transferred to RCMP custody. The man has now been charged with importation of methamphetamine and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Officials say since January 1, 2025, the CBSA in Southern Ontario has seized 616.5 kg of methamphetamine coming from the United States.
