CK Public Health is reporting four new cases of the coronavirus and two recoveries in Wednesday’s report. The municipality’s active case count increases to 39, with one C-K resident remaining in hospital with the illness. One non-resident remains hospitalized in CKHA’s intensive care unit.
There are currently no active cases connected to the institutional outbreak in long-term care at Riverview Gardens, but the outbreak declared on December 1st has not yet been cleared by the health unit. A staff member was previously listed as positive and was in self-isolation.
Chatham-Kent has reported a total of 540 infections, 498 recoveries and three deaths related to COVID-19.
Public Health says close contact transmission is responsible for 33 of the 39 active cases locally, with one case travel-related, two pending and three unknown.
SCHOOL UPDATE
A number of local schools continue to deal with the virus.
Over 100 students and 15 staff remain under quarantine from Dresden Area Central School this week in connection to two probable cases of COVID-19.
Public Health now says there’s been one confirmed case each in the school communities of Winston Churchill Public School and Chatham-Kent Secondary School in Chatham, however it’s not believed there is any impact to either school and no students or staff have been dismissed.
There are now two confirmed cases in the school community of Queen Elizabeth II in Chatham, one reported on Monday with no impact on staff or students; and one from December 3rd that sent an unspecified number of students into quarantine.
Tilbury District High School has had three confirmed cases in the last week, but again Public Health doesn’t believe there to be any impact to the school as a whole.
At the St Clair Catholic District School Board, there is just the one confirmed case at St Angela Merici with no students or staff being quarantined.
All schools remain open.
PROVINCIAL REPORT
Ontario is reporting 1,890 new infections and 28 more deaths on Wednesday. The numbers include 517 new cases in Toronto, 471 in Peel and 187 in York. Hospital CEOs in the hotspot areas are warning the facilities are reaching a “tipping point” in hospital admissions.
Windsor-Essex recorded 94 new cases with 556 active cases. Middlesex-London added 37 new cases for 305 active cases and one new infection (25 active) in Lambton County.
