401 Crash Leads To Impaired Driving Charges

A Port Lambton man is facing impaired driving charges after leaving the road and crashing his vehicle on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers received a call from a Good Samaritan who reported a suspected impaired driver in the westbound lanes of the highway. However, as the concerned citizen was providing information to officers, the reported vehicle left the roadway and crashed.

Police said the driver was not injured in the collision.

The 43-year-old accused from Port Lambton is now charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, failing to wear a seat belt, driving without insurance, driving without a valid permit, and failing to register a change of address.

The man was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
