Bridge Closure To Begin Next Week

Construction season is coming early to Wallaceburg.

The Lord Selkirk Bridge will be shut down to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic starting on Monday and remaining closed until the end of August.

For marine traffic, boats that require the bridge to be lifted will not be able to pass until June, at which point one leaf will be back in working order to allow boats through.

The $5.3-million rehabilitation will include the replacement of various structural steel components, balance bridge counterweights, and the replacement of high speed wireless radio transmitters, among other things.

The bridge connecting McNaughton Avenue and Dufferin is currently under load restrictions and has been closed a few times for maintenance in the last year or two, but hasn’t undergone a major restoration since 2010.
