An annual walk in support of end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent has surpassed its fundraising goal.

More than 250 people braved the rain on Sunday to make their way around the Mud Creek Trail in Chatham for the 9th annual Hike for Hospice.

Officials say more than 400 hikers registered for the event to help meet the goal of raising $150,000 for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. In all, $174,278 was collected through pledges and sponsors.

Since its inception in 2017, the Hike for Hospice has raised $1.15 million to provide end-of-life care including residential hospice care, care coordination, and grief and bereavement support to local families at no cost to them.
