A “Little” Help For Those in Need

It’s no secret some people are going through hard times and every little bit helps.

A Wallaceburg couple is going that extra mile to show they care. Rick Bernard and Loree Bailey have built a Little Free Pantry, a box unit set up in Library Park near the walking bridge on James Street.

The idea came from a similar project at Family Service Kent in Chatham, and Bernard says they saw a need in Wallaceburg as well.

“There’s been an unfortunate need for those sorts of things in all communities in Chatham-Kent,” Bernard says “We thought it would be something positive to bring and have something where people can donate stuff to the community, and the needy can go as they need and discretely utilize the services that are there.”

Bernard says the pantry contains canned goods and non-perishable items for people who might need some help.

“If you are in need of anything, help yourself, anyone and everyone can take something out of there whenever they need it,” Bernard explains. “If, at any time, anybody wants to make a donation of any kind, feel free to drop it of and put it in there for somebody to take.”

Bernard says they also have personal care items and can always use more.
