This New Year’s Eve will be different for a lot of local residents as the province-wide lockdown continues to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Health Alliance CEO Lori Marshall says that while staying home and not ringing in the New Year with our friends may be difficult, it’s for the greater good.
“We know what to do, we know how to keep each other safe, and that’s by staying home and celebrating just with those in our immediate household,” Marshall says. “I know it’s very tempting to get together with others but we really need to do this. We’re on the cusp of being able to start vaccinating (in Chatham-Kent,) hopefully in the new year, and that’s what we really want to look forward to.”
Marshall says it’s far better to ring in the New Year quietly at home than start of 2021 with a spike in new cases.
“I can’t underscore enough what an incredible year this has been, not only for our community, but for our health care providers. It is really helpful for us to see people adhering to what we’ve all been told to do, my thanks to everyone who’s out there on the front line who are responding and have responded for the last 10 months.”
Marshall says we’re not out of the woods yet, and it’s going to take everyone working together to create a safe and healthy 2021.
