Abduction Suspect from Mississauga Arrested in CK

A Kitchener man has been arrested in Chatham-Kent following an alleged abduction in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police say a man was allegedly seen hitting a woman in Mississauga late Tuesday morning and forcing the victim into a vehicle before leaving the area.

After further investigation, authorities in Peel Region reached out to Chatham-Kent Police Wednesday afternoon and said the suspect was believed to be Chatham’s north end.

Officers were able to track down a suspect vehicle on St Clair Street, but the vehicle sped off.

Almost two hours later, police say the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of St Clair and Grand Avenue West, but continued along Grand until it broke down.

A man got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene, but was later found hiding on private property.

The 48-year-old accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held for a bail hearing. He has since been charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to stop after an accident.

The man will be returned to the custody of authorities in Peel Region and charged with assault and forcible confinement.

The victim has been located and is said to be in good health.

The investigation, involving Chatham-Kent Police, Peel Regional Police, and Halton Police Service, continues.
