One person is in custody following a police standoff in Wallaceburg.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a residence on Wallace Street shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a man who was believed to be in crisis.
Authorities arrived at the scene and attempted to communicate with the man, however, he allegedly made threats toward police and indicated there were weapons inside the home.
In response, officers set up a containment area to ensure public safety as they continued to communicate with the accused. Area residents were asked to avoid Wallace Street between Prince Street and Mitchell Drive.
Several hours later, at around 8:30 a.m., the suspect was arrested without further incident. The 21-year-old from Wallaceburg is now charged with one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
An investigation remains ongoing, but police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
