The Chatham Kent Health Alliance looks to make cuts to emergency services, most notably at the Sydenham Campus, and the Advisory Board is alright with that.
The 5 doctor committee spoke yesterday on patient safety and emergency services. They believe that an ER with a higher rate of patients should receive more than those with lesser traffic. Sydenham Board Chair Sheldon Parsons says that a fraction of emergency cases come into the hospital by ambulance and that alters the picture about the traffic flow at the Wallaceburg hospital.
Many have concerns about those on the edge of the municipality and areas like Walpole, being able to get an ER in a life threatening situation. Dr. Indraneel Ghosh says he would sooner travel an extra 20 minutes in an ambulance and get to an ER with the best trained and prepared staff, than go to one place and have to be transfered
Councillor Jeff Wesley has brought forward figures that says Wallaceburg handles about 30 percent of all the emergency cases in Chatham Kent.
