Alleged Bell Thief Arrested in Chatham

Charges have been laid following a theft in downtown Chatham.

On September 1st, police were called to a King Street West business and say a bell had been removed from the entrance. Police identified the suspect and say he was already under a probation order to stay away from the store.

Early this morning, the accused was spotted on Wellington Street East and arrested.

The 48-year-old man is now charged with theft under $5000 and failing to comply with a probation order. He was released with further conditions and a date in court on October 31st.
