Alleged Gas Thief Arrested After Police Chase

A local man is facing over a dozen charges following a gas theft and police chase in Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a gas station on Mill Street in Tilbury around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Other officers were provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which was spotted at around 10 p.m. on King Street East in Chatham. When police attempted to stop the vehicle on Hyslop Street, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to run. However, he was arrested following a short foot chase.

As a result, a 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been charged with mischief, theft, possession of stolen property, driving under suspension, driving without insurance, driving without a valid permit, failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts of failing to attend court, three counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
