A local man has been charged after police were tipped off about an impaired driver in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the complaint on Monday just before 4 p.m. after a witness saw a man stumble out of his car to place several empty alcohol containers into a garbage bin. The driver then returned to his vehicle and proceeded onto St. Clair Street.
Officers located and stopped the vehicle to conduct a roadside sobriety test. The driver, who was believed to be high, was then arrested and taken to police headquarters for an evaluation by a drug recognition expert.
As a result, a 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man is now charged with driving while impaired by drugs. He was later released from custody with a future court date.
