Pet and Wildlife Rescue is being awarded a five year contract for animal control and pound services for all of Chatham-Kent.
PAWR formerly covered Chatham, Wallaceburg, South Kent, and North Kent. The new contract includes East and West Kent as well.
However, some councillors are concerned with the length of the term.
Ward 5 Councillor Carmen McGregor says she would have liked to limit the contract to two or three years.
“Without having any other contractors that bid on it, that was a concern,” McGregor explains. “As council, we received a lot of emails and concerns about the adoption process and adoption of sick animals, so that’s a great concern.”
The contract is worth $4.1 million dollars.
