Animal Control To Crack Down On Dog Tags

Chatham-Kent residents who have not purchased up-to-date tags for their canine companions could soon be facing a fine.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) said it will begin an enforcement campaign next week by contacting any registered dog owners who have not purchased their 2022 municipal dog tags.

As per a municipal bylaw, all dog owners are required to purchase tags each year. Residents who fail to purchase their dog tags risk a $240 fine.

The cost of a dog tag is $38 per dog, which applies a $10 late fee for not purchasing the tag prior to March 31. Dog owners will also have to pay an additional $10 if their pet has not been sterilized.

Dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham or any municipal office. They can also be purchased online by clicking here.

Anyone who no longer owns a dog is asked to call 311 or 519-360-1998.
