Annual Deer Cull Returns to Point Pelee

Anyone hoping to make a trip to Point Pelee in the next little while will have to wait.

The national park is closed for the next two weeks for the annual deer cull.

According to Parks Canada, it’s part of a multi-year plan to improve the environmental health of the area, in partnerships with Caldwell First Nation.

Officials say a healthy balanced environment at Point Pelee National Park would ideally support 24 to 32 deer, but the park’s population has grown to three or four times higher than what can be sustained.

The park will remain closed until January 25th.
