Strong winds over the next few days could spell more trouble for the Lake Erie Shoreline.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says strong southwest winds are expected to begin this afternoon and last through Sunday, with waves potentially reaching over 1.5 metres along the shoreline.
There’s a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion, all along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County, including along the high bluff areas. Flooding should also be expected in low lying shoreline areas.
And with overnight and morning temperatures today and tomorrow hovering at or below the freezing point, there’s also the risk for freezing wave spray, making for treacherous walking or driving conditions.
