Another Local Life Lost to COVID-19

Chatham-Kent has lost another resident to COVID-19.

According to officials at CK Pubic Health, a woman in her 70s is the latest victim of the virus.

That brings to 63 the number of residents in the municipality who have succumbed to COVID since the pandemic began.

Overall, there have been another 65 high-risk infections since the last update on Friday, with the seven day average sitting at 18 new cases a day.

The COVID outbreak at Chatham Retirement Resort has been declared over with a total of 13 cases since March 20th. Public Health continues to keep tabs on outbreaks at Blenheim Community Village and the Medicine Unit of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Meantime, the number of COVID patients at the Health Alliance continues to creep upward, now sitting at 18. Hospital officials say there are seven COVID patients being treated primarily for the virus, one of whom is in the progressive care unit.

CKHA CEO Lori Marshall says while any increase in COVID numbers is concerning, the health care system is easily able to handle this kind of patient load.
