The Wallaceburg campus of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will soon house a new home and community care clinic.
Cathy Kelly, VP of Home and Community Care at the Erie St. Clair LHIN, says things like IV treatment and wound care will be handled at the clinic, which is set to open next April.
“The Erie St. Clair LHIN has been coordinating home and community care for about six months and is committed to patient-centred care,” Kelly says. “By expanding our nursing clinic services to Wallaceburg, we are working toward our goals of improving the patient and family experience, and creating healthy communities.”
Kelly says there is still some work to be done, including finding a nursing provider and finalizing patient numbers.
There are nearly 40,000 home and community care patients in the Erie St. Clair region, roughly 100 of whom will be served initially when the clinic opens in the spring.
The new clinic will serve patients in North Kent and South Lambton, meaning some who currently have to travel to Chatham will be able to receive treatment closer to home.
