The clock is ticking for any local farmers and others in the agriculture sector to cash in on government funding.

Tomorrow marks the deadline for applications to the Agricultural Workforce Equity and Diversity Initiative. To qualify, applicants be part of a research body, municipality, Indigenous community or government, or agriculture industry organization. The funding is earmarked for projects serving at least one under-represented group, such as women, visible minorities, those with disabilities, or members of the 2slgbtq+ community.

Applications also remain open for the Labour Force Management Strategies Initiative and the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program.

In all, the federal and provincial governments have set aside $50.7 billion for these three initiatives, funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Sustainable CAP is a 5-year, $3.5-billion investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector.
