Municipal officials are continuing to review their options when it comes to the future of arenas in Chatham.
In a brief video on his Facebook page, Mayor Darrin Canniff says there are four main options on the table, including maintaining the status quo; renovating the existing facilities; or building a $60-million dollar facility paid for by municipal reserves or through a mix of private, corporate, and government funding.
“I strongly believe this year there will be opportunities to acquire federal, provincial funding,” Canniff says. “We have to apply for it and compete against other communities, but it’s out there, it’s a great opportunity.”
Canniff says the next six months will be interesting as they delve into the possibilities, including size, variety of amenities that cold be offered, and of course, location.
