Armed Suspect Arrested in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police got more than they bargained for while arresting a man in Wallaceburg.

Shortly after 8:30 Monday evening, officers spotted a man wanted on an outstanding warrant walking out of a McNaughton Avenue convenience store.

Police arrested the accused, but during a search of the suspect found he was wearing a Kevlar bullet proof vest and was carrying a realistic airsoft gun that looked like a Glock 17 handgun.

The 45-year-old was taken to police headquarters and was held for a bail hearing.

The list of charges includes failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to attend court, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, three counts of breach of recognizance, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
