Arrest Made in Break In Dating Back to 2014

Seven years after a break-in at a Chatham apartment, an arrest has finally been made.

The break-in happened October 25th, 2014, and at the time officers collected evidence from the scene for forensic analysis, but it wasn’t until this past June that progress was made.

The RCMP contacted Chatham-Kent Police when a fingerprint matched that of a former Chatham resident.

The prints had been cross-checked with records from the RCMP’s Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services of anyone who has been charged or convicted of a crime, and authorities were able to identify a 29-year-old man now living in Sarnia.

The accused was arrested last night and will be back in court to face the charges next month.
