Arrest Made In Walpole Island Assault

Charges have been laid following an assault on Walpole Island First Nation that left one person with injuries.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers from the Lambton County detachment and the Walpole Island Police Service responded to the intersection of Old Ferry Road and Union Hall Road at around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, after the victim was assaulted with an edged weapon.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but police have not stated if the individual required medical treatment.

Following an investigation, officers located and arrested a suspect at a nearby residence.

A 30-year-old Walpole Island man is now charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief, break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence, failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
