A joint investigation involving authorities in Chatham-Kent and Toronto has led to the arrest of three suspects in connection to a so-called moving scam.
Local police received complaints starting back in May about being taken in by a moving company. The victims said they’d paid for their belongings to be moved from one location to another, but after the property had been picked up, the movers called to say more money would be needed before the items would be delivered.
The two company names used in the scams include AYC, All You Can Move Movers, and Canadian Principal Movers.
Three Toronto residents have been arrested, facing a slew of fraud and theft-related charges.
The offences include
- false pretense over $5000,
- false pretense over $5000,
- fraud over $5000,
- theft over $5000,
- possession of stolen property over $5000,
- mischief over $5000,
- conspiracy to commit false pretense
- conspiracy to commit fraud
All three were released with conditions and a future court date of October 24th.
