President Alysson Storey says this year’s guest speaker is artist, social activist, and Chatham-Kent native Artis Shreve Lane.

“She was born in North Buxton and raised in Chatham,” Storey says. “She’s coming back to share her very interesting and inspirational life story.”

Lane was the first black woman win the Dominion of Canada Award and created the first ever memorial to an African-American woman in the U.S. Capitol Building.

The format of the evening will be an interview-style discussion, led by Christopher Prince.

“It allows for some dialogue with the audience and to enjoy the images on screen,” Storey explains. “It’s going to be a really interactive format.”

Tickets are $60, this evening’s banquet is being held at the John D Bradley Convention Center in Chatham.
